Planning Your Wedding? There’s an App For That.

When it comes to keeping in touch and getting things done on the go, there’s nothing like Apple’s iPhone, in my opinion. If lovie-dovie TV commercials give hopeless romantics the warm fuzzies, then hopeless gadget geeks like me feel the same way about our iPhones.

Now let’s combine the two: here’s something to make both geek and romantic smile; and if you’re both, then you’re probably already way ahead of me. I’m talking about iPhone apps for wedding planning! I wish this stuff had been around back in the dark ages when I got married. Look, if you’re on the move as much as I am, you know how convenient it is to whip out your phone and touch base with email, your calendar, contacts, and office docs. Now take it a step further and put your wedding planning in your pocket, right there with you wherever you go.

iWedding

iWedding is an app that provides a wide array of features to track your to-do lists, jot down notes, organize your dates, and manage your guest lists. There are RSVP and meal choice features, seating arrangements, budget assistants, spending summaries, and a business directory with vendor contacts. You can export your data to an iWedding Online account, but it’s not clear if you can export/import to and from other sources–say, your wedding website or online planning tools service or a Google Docs spreadsheet. But there’s definitely a lot going on here that you can take advantage of. Keep up to date with their development at the iWedding blog.

With iWedding, much of your wedding planning is available on-the-go

Wedding911 by TheKnot.comTheKnot.com, Ye Olde Walmart of Weddings, has also released an iPhone app called Wedding911 that enables you to plug into their vast vendor directories, forums, and online planning info. It’s easy mobile access to their informative and inspirational knowledgebases normally accessed at the wedding portal’s web interface. There’s the ability to post wedding questions and get instant answers from other nearlyweds, for example, or to browse their frequently-updated Q&A’s. Wedding911 is available for free.

It’s part of a full suite of apps they have available, and will count down to your big day by years, months, hours, even seconds! Automatically adjusts the timezone for destination weddings, and you can change the background to match your wedding colors, too.

And there’s more where these came from: just pop over to the iTunes store and search for wedding apps. Most are available for free or for a buck.

It’s your call if actually proposing or tying the knot via iPhone is taking the whole thing a wee bit too far. As for my own opinion, I’m inclined to restrict the ubergeek elements to the planning phase. But then again, I’m all for a little creativity. After all, without it, a phone would just be…well, a phone.

Enjoy the apps, and happy (mobile) planning!

Another sign of the changing times and how technology can help couples plan their wedding. Being able to easily post to a message board or research a vendor from your iPhone could be helpful for busy couples.

It would be interesting to know how many users the apps have and some feedback from couples that have used the software to plan their wedding.

Apps totally saved my wedding! Hands down the one that helped most is Wedding Registry. My husband and I tried to do a traditional store registry– but they just didn’t have all of the items we needed. This app is really customizable so it reflects your style, and your guests have more options and price ranges to chose from. Love it! Here’s the site http://www.ilistapps.com/wedding-registry-app/
