Illuminating Your Outdoor Wedding Reception Venue

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding reception that will go into the evening, a major consideration is the lighting for your venue. Your lighting will serve two purposes: adding to the reception decor, mood, and ambiance…as well as helping to illuminate paths and other areas for your guests to move about.

If decor at your location is simple, you may want to hire a wedding lighting specialist to help add some drama to your reception with professional lighting. Professionally illuminating the main areas of your reception can go a long way in adding a sophisticated flair to a more plain or simple venue. If your reception site has plenty of character already and you’d just like to add to the ambiance, have your wedding coordinator or the person in charge of your wedding details help you set up some votive candles, lanterns, luminaries, twinkle lights, or chandeliers in key areas of your reception for added decor. Consider fountains, pools, outdoor fireplaces, table settings, and along steps, paths or walkways–anywhere guests will be navigating. Be creative with your lighting fixtures! Make sure you visit your reception site in the evening to know what areas should be illuminated for your special day.
